Hello romance lovers. I have a question for you. Where are you from? Is English your first language? Are you reading books in English or in your native language? Ok, those were three questions, but I asked those with a reason. I was just thinking about the small number of contemporary romance/erotic novel that our publishers translate for us in Croatia- especially the novels of some new foreign authors- and wanted to ask you about how those things work in your country? If you aren't a native English speaker, are you satisfied with the number of different authors you can find in your bookstores? Do you like reading novels written in the past 2 or 3 decades or something newer?
What about historic romance novels? Do you think they are of better quality if written nowadays, with all the technology within reach that can provide us with any kind of information about past times?
So many questions I have today and all of that because of The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie, the first novel in Mackenzies & McBrides series.
. Every time I read an historic romance, I get an urge to start comparing those written before and the ones authors get to publish today, but I never actually do it. Do you? Let me know!
The Mackenzies are rich, dangerous and eccentric. Especially eccentric, and especially the youngest one of them- Ian. He spend most of his life in an asylum and even those in his family don't believe him be completely sane. But he's still a Mackenzie, so when he meets Beth Ackerley he does what any other member of his family would do if they met a beautiful lady- he does everything he can to win her over.
Beth Ackerley is a widow with enough money to life her happily ever after alone. But she's also a lady with needs and lord Ian seems to be the one to know how to satiate them.
Beth and Ian are happy, but something's threatening their relationship. There's a killer on the loose and many people think Ian is the one the police should look for. After all, he is the crazy one...
Ian Mackenzie is a character that gives life to this novel. Never before have I read about a character that, in some moments, made me think that he actually could have suffered some serious damage, but in others, he seems like a completely normal guy. But it's Beth that's actually the best part of the novel. She's the one who starts a relationship with a man who obviously has problems- she's the one putting everything at risk with him- and loving it! What a brave woman and a bit eccentric herself!
Adding a bit of mystery that comes from not knowing who the murderer is makes this novel even more interesting, especially because of the signs that point us toward the fact that maybe one of the Mackenzies did it after all. This book really makes it hard for us to guess who the great villain and because of that, it rocks!

So comment below if you ever happen to read this novel, and be sure to let me know if you have an answer to some of the questions I asked in the introductory part of this post.

Zato?
A Beth eli Iana. Ima on i previe vlastitog novca.
