Review/ recenzija: Cora Carmack: Losing It/Slatka nevolja

I came across Losing It by accident and didn't read any reviews about the novel before reading it. The blurb seemed interesting and I was curious about this professor/student romance, so I decided to read and review it.
There are two more novels in the same series:  Faking It and Finding It.

Bliss Edwards is a college student who will soon graduate, but she's still a virgin. Her plan is to go out, find a guy and rectify that problem ASAP.
There enters Garrick.
He reads Shakespeare in a bar and sees a girl he's interested in. She takes him home, things get hot, but then she just leaves. Escapes, actually.
The next day, after telling her best friend she did have sex the day before, Bliss finds out her almost lover is actually her professor.
The two come to an agreement to forget everything that has happened, but they just can't keep their hands off of each other.
This is how a relationship between a student and a professor begins.

Beware of spoilers in the next few paragraphs. I tried to avoid details as much as I could, but there are some questions about this novel I really need to ask because I just can't pretend I don't find this things strange. Please, leave your thoughts about it in the comment section.
First, I really miss a real threat to the relationship of Garrick and Bliss, something a bit more serious than her best friend being in love with her. Something that would show us that in reality, there would be great consequences for the people that get involved in that kind of a forbidden relationship. Nowhere in this book is their relationship threatened by external causes or other people.
Then there's the thing about Bliss. She chooses to tell her best friend she had sex with her professor because that's easier for her to do than admit she was still a virgin. What moral values is Cora teaching us here?
And mononucleosis? OMG. I had the misfortune to see from up close the symptoms of that illness, and let me tell you, the person who got sick was in a really bad shape almost for a month. At least one member of my family had to always stay at home and take care of them. When I read about Bliss and Garrick taking care of each other I felt, well, dumb. Where were their friends and family, why didn't anybody call? Who would change their sheets after them sweating all day? Who prepared food for two people who weren't able to swallow more than a half of a spoon of mashed bananas?

I would recommend this novel for the younger readers. If you like to read about a bit more complicated emotional state and a plot that makes you question the morality of character's choices, than this isn't the book you'd find satisfying.

Anyway, Losing It is a novel written in a simple way, full of humor and a few of unpredicted adventures. It will take your mind off of your everyday tasks for a few hours and tell you a story of a young girl in love and confused with the world around her. Bliss is trying to find her place in the society, and her searching for her perfect career is something a lot of young people can find easy to identify with. Give her a chance to tell you her story.

And of course, share with us what you think,

Tu ulazi Garrick.

U vezi Bliss isto imam jednu dilemu. Pogotovo mirne due i bez kasnijih preispitivanja tih tvrdnji. Kakve se vrijednosti ovakvim autorovim postupcima promiu?
I jo jedna stvar: mononukleoza.

Zabavit e vas, uvesti u glavu mlade djevojke i ispriati njenu priu jednim jasnim, mladenakim rjenikom.

Jo jednu recenziju o ovom romanu, kao i o jednom nastavku, moete proitati na blogu Life of a Bookworm.

Piite vae miljenje u komentare,

Rose ?
