Uh, la la! 
There is a reason J.T. Geissinger is one of my favorite authors and every time I get to read one of her books I fall in love with her work a bit more.
A few days ago, while on vacation, I've had the time (finally!) to read for a few days in a row, all day long, and trust me, I didn't even try to sleep.
I sat there, by the sea, reading 
Burn for you. 
Believe me, I was burning for this novel in more than just one way ??


Jackson �The Beast� Boudreaux is an asshole. He's rude, presumptuous and arrogant. He's also soooo handsome. More than he deserves to be.
More than Bianca can sometimes handle.
After storming into her restaurant, calling her food average, and demanding of her to work for him, the only thing she wants is to slap him so hard his ears would fall off.
But she has to take the job. He's offering 20 grand for her to cook for his guests and that money could save her mother's life.
But it gets even more complicated.
To keep his money and his fortune, Jackson has to marry as soon as possible, and the man would never again trust a woman with his heart. So he's asking Bianca to be his wife. A million dollars for five years of marriage.
A simple business proposal. No sex. No emotions involved.
Will she say yes?



 "You, Mr. Fancy Bourbon Guy, are an asshole." That was my first thought about our hero, Mr. Bourdaux, while reading the first few chapters. Soon after that, I was humbly mumbling my deepest apologies to the perfection of this man.

 "The only way to judge a person is by his deeds."

 Jackson Boudreaux is one of those rough looking guys, full of cash and empty of every hope to ever be loved or accepted. The best thing about him is that he's not living in denial. He doesn't see himself as a god's gift to the whole women kind and his boldness, while he's seducing a woman, is mostly the result of him being scared and acting without a plan. His scars make him insecure in his looks.




If you read the novel carefully, you'll probably notice some motifs the author has borrowed from the well-known fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. Jackson has a scar on his face that reminds him every day of some bad decisions he has made. He's also a grumpy man with a big house and a library full of first editions - and Bianca loves to read.

 Bianca is a woman with only one parent and a narcissistic ex. As an owner of a restaurant, she made the Bourdaux bourbon the base for all of her recipes and that has been proven to bring her more customers than any other dish she has made before.

 Her food is the thing that brings the two of them together in an explosively romantic novel that will make you hungry for more than just her well known and delicious jambalaya.



If this novel does open your appetite, there's no need to panic. The author has put a few recipes in between chapters, just to show you Bianca's restaurant would easily become your own favorite place to eat. Her menu sounds absolutely yummy.
If you gain the courage to make one of those yourself, please come back to this blog and send me a photo of your meal. It's not an easy job to write a review thinking about hot guys and food (those are actually, besides books, my worst temptations) and not being able to have either. Make my day ??

Burn for You (published in 2017) is the first novel in Slow Burn book series, followed by Melt for You (published in 2018). The book number three, Ache for You is to be published sometime next year.

Kendall Ryan, Kendall Ryan all around me. While the author's busy releasing new novels (almost) every few weeks (Love Machine is to be published July 16, and Bro Code was published in May), recently I have been going through some of her older stuff. 
Room Mate
was just published in Croatia, giving us just the perfect love story for these lazy summer evenings. The novel is the first one in Roommates book series, followed by The Play Mate, The House Mate, and The Soul Mate, all of which were published in 2017.


Cannon and Page know each other whole their lives because he's her best friend's younger brother. They haven't seen each other in years so when Allie asks Page to make Cannon her roommate for two months, Page's everything but excited about it.
But after she sees him, it becomes even more important for Cannon not to move in. A geek with braces is now all grown up, broad-shouldered and hot as hell. And totally forbidden.

 He decided to stay away from girls and one night stands. Cannon's luck with women is everything but good. Apparently, his wand really is magical, because after one night with him, every girl falls deep under his spell. 
That's, actually, how he lost his place. One of his ex "girlfriends" broke into his apartment and he had to get away.
Besides, he should really focus on his studies and do right by his mother and sister.

 But after moving in with Page, Cannon realizes them staying away from each other would be mission impossible. Any kind of sexual relationship between them would get both of them into real trouble. 
So will they be able to stay away?



If you're a Kendall Ryan fan, there's one thing you know it's true: her books will make you have a good time. Her writing style is simple, easy to read, funny and recognizable. 
She likes to go in medias res, avoids descriptions, long introductions and keeps the number of characters to the minimum.

 In Room Mate, we have a girl falling for a 4 years younger guy - a refreshing change since we're often reading about girls (in their twenties) that end up with guys more than a decade older than them.
Cannon is also the one with a more complicated ARC since he's got more to lose.

 But he's also very mature. Even though in the past he has made some lousy decisions regarding his "relationships" with women (absolutely unintentionally, of course ??), he gets the fact that he has to become more serious so he could make some important decisions about his life. He owes that to his mother and sister.

 Still, we can very much see the young and arrogant side of his personality (having the di*k of his size does make you think higher of yourself ??) and that's exactly what will make us, like it made Page, fall hard for him.


Room Mate is a simple but interesting, fast paceing novel that will make you relax. The relationship between the characters happens naturally, starting as a friendship, involving into something more sexual and ending up as a true romance. It's also possible to feel carachters' anxiousness and fear of disappointing their ones loved ones, that makes their story even more realistic.

The Bro Code, the book that Ryan has published a few months ago is actually pretty similar to this one. In both cases, we're dealing with a forbidden romance between a person and their best friend's sibling. 

If you've never had the chance to read some of Ryan's novels, and you're looking for a new adult romance with a sweet happy ending, start with Room Mate.

Oh my god, thank you so much for making me smart enough to pick up this book! The novel
Dirty Exes 
has been published earlier this month and after seeing what a great job Rachel did with Wingman, Inc. book series I just had to read it immediately. 
Dirty Exes is the first novel in Liars, Inc. book series, followed by Dangerous Exes (release date October 2018).



Meet Blair. She never had any luck with love. Her husband cheated and the only other guy she ever had feelings for left her behind - to chase his career in sports.
While drowning her sorrow in alcohol she hears another girl screaming on her boyfriend - who cheated. Blair liked the girl, and Isla liked her back. And that's how Dirty Exes were born - a PI agency that exposed cheaters.
A year later Blair and Isla have their business going great, until the day they get a new client. She claims her husband has a lover and wants Blair to prove it.
Piece of cake, right? Well, not really.
The guy that's supposedly cheating? It's Jessie, the man who left Blair and went away to play football.
But not to worry, after all, Blair is a professional. She'll do what it has to be done, even though she still feels something for Jessie, and he obviously still likes her.
So Blair will have to ask for help, and help she'll get. Colin, Jessie's best friend, will be there to assist her in every way possible. He'll make her feel safe and sexy and sooo hot. He'll make her want him.
But sooner or later, Blair will have to choose.

A few months back I fell in love with Ian and Lex in Wingman, Inc. and here I am today, drooling over the new, hot and extremely funny guy (I'm not gonna say his name, because spoilers) who's doing a great job seducing Ian's sister Blair.

I almost forgot what an amazing stories Rachel writes. Her plots are refreshing, and her characters are so damn cute. Here we have (some sort of) a love triangle between three people we learn to deeply care about. That destroys me every time. It's easy to hate a bad guy where there is a bad guy, but how do you pick between two men so perfect and so sinful at the same time?


Once again, Rachel showed us how fucked up human emotions are, how many layers is every one of us made of and how complicated it could be to want to do the right thing. 
But the best part of this novel are funny and witty dialogues that made the sexual tension between characters visible and palpable. And Colin.
Oh, God. Colin.
Drooooool.
What a very talented man. Are there more guys like him somewhere? Anywhere? ??
I have a serious crush on every single one of Rachels male characters and I'm not even sorry.

Dangerous Exes is to be released later this year so that means it's time for you to meet our trio as soon as you get the chance. You'll love them.
There's nothing like spending the summer with a dirty ex.

The most important codex among guys is, of course, the Bro Code, and the rule no.1 is simple and well known: "Bros before Hoes", also known as "friends before women" or "place thine higher priorities on brethren, not wenches".
Bro Code, 
by Kendall Ryan, is a sexy novel focused on that exact first rule, the most important one, and the one that, at least in the romance genre, always gets broken.

You've probably heard about the famous term Bro Code already, especially if you've watched the TV show How I Met Your Mother. In HIMYM, Barney Stinson has popularized the term by using a book under the same name, created by himself and the authors of the series. The book was actually published and features 150 rules that 'bros' should follow to show respect for each other. You can buy the book here. 
The term Bro Code has been used in Seinfeld and Office, and it's widely used in popular culture today.

I find the idea of the Bro Code enticing and it was what made me interested in reading this novel. I loved K.Ryan in Filthy Beautiful Lies and Hitched book series and even though this book is standalone, my previous experience was enough to make me reach for it as soon as it was available. The novel was published May 1.


In this novel, the Bro Code forbids Barrett to da date and love Ava, because she's his best friend's sister - and a bro never touches the sister of another bro. 
I've been expecting some hot and merciless sexy time between the protagonists, that would end up in a walk of shame or a guilty conscience. I've prepared myself for some epic arguments and even some bro fight, but it did not happen. Why?
Because our male protagonist is in love. Sweet, sweet man. He's in love.
And that means Barrett is serious with Ava from the moment he sees her again. He's motivated by true feelings and acts accordingly.

The story of Ava and Barrett will make you squirm in happiness. The characters fight their attraction, but it is stronger than some law that makes them feel guilty for loving each other. The story progression is well paced and, of course, the stakes are high. Their relationship will cost both of them something they have worked hard for - but real love is worth it.

Barret is one of those characters who say it and mean it.
Ladies, get ready to fall in love.

This one will melt your heart...

All of this started about more than a year ago when, at the time, to me a completely unknown Anna B.Doe, asked me if I'd like to beta read her novel Lost&Found. I've said yes, because hell yes, I wanted to read it, and I wasn't crazy to refuse. The novel was supposed to be the first in New York Knights book series, featuring a football player and a wannabe author (as I've said, who would've said no to that?).
So here we are, more than a year later, gathering here for the third and the last time as a part of this series, and this time, it's
Forever.

They have found each other, but Will and Bel have yet to find their happily ever after.
Living on different continents, they live for the moment they get to see each other again. Those moments are sweet and emotional, but they are rare.

 If you've been following Will's and Bel's story from the start, you remember they have had their happy ending, but their story wasn't really over yet. They did find love and each other, but the distance between them kept them apart longer than they would have liked.

 So they lived their lives on different parts of the globe, but that meant one of them would have to make the ultimate sacrifice, leave their old life, friends, and family behind and move thousands of miles away. For love.


The lost girl we've met in Lost&Found has grown up. The boy who had once let love escape him has grown to know never to make this mistake again.
For the last time, Bel and Will will have to say goodbye, only to be able to reunite, once and forever.

 This sweet conclusion of their story gathers all of our favorite characters, like JD and Sienna, shows us what happened with people we became so fond of and made us cry one last time. 
We've got to see their forever. And it's beautiful.

 There's that something that Anna does that not so many authors can do. She takes such a normal, everyday people and situations and turns them into something deep and emotional. Her novels lack big unrealistic scenes and instead of it, she's able to show emotions that all of us feel, happy or sad, every day.

 I'm looking forward to Anna's new projects, ready and excited...

Vjerojatno ste posljednjih dana �uli, pogotovo ako �itate ljubavne romane, o kontroverznoj situaciji koja je buknula nakon �to je indie autorica Faleena Hopkins trademarkom za�titila rije� 'cocky'.

*cocky se prevodi kao arogantan ili umi�ljen, a pridjev dolazi od termina cock, koji je vulgarni naziv za penis. U �anru ljubavnih romana, naj�e��e ozna�ava mu�karca kojeg arogantnim �ine njegova ljepota i/ili uspje�nost u poslovnom ili ljubavnom �ivotu.*

Mo�da ste te vijesti presko�ili, misliv�i da vas se ne ti�u ili zbog toga �to �itate neki drugi �anr, ili zato jer se radi o engleskom jeziku.
Ja sam se bacila u istra�ivanje ponajvi�e zato da bih svoju podr�ku pru�ila indie autorima, izdava�ima i kolegama blogerima koji su se na�li o�te�enima. Najprije sam o temi napisala kratak post na Facebooku, i s time sam mislila da sam rekla sve �to trebam i �to osje�am da je potrebno.
Onda sam ju�er pro�itala �lanak u Daily News online �asopisu u kojem je autor (u potpunom beskorisnom �lanku u kojem se ne navode nikakve konkretne informacije) ovaj problem sveo na bezobrazan i potpuno subjektivan zaklju�ak o tome da se autori ljubavnih romana sva�aju po "trivijalnim dataljima". Da je doti�an pro�itao i�ta od onoga �to mu tehnolo�ko �udo zvano internet omogu�ava da pro�ita, postalo bi mu jasno da je 'cocky' problem koji �e prije ili kasnije zahvatiti sve �anrove - ako mu se ne stane na kraj. Iz tog sam razloga sjela i napisala ovaj post. Da vam objasnim da je 'cocky' tek po�etak.

Prije nego �to se usputim u obja�njavanje situacije, naglasila bih sljede�e:
1. ovaj post rezultat je isklju�ivo mojeg istra�ivanja
2. situacija koju sam opisala u ovom postu mo�e se promijeniti ve� i nekoliko minuta nakon njegova objavljivanja - na problemu radi niz odvjetnika obje zahva�ene strane, a novi dokazi ni�u svako malo - ono �to sada vrijedi sutra �e mo�da, od strane stru�njaka koji se time bave, biti progla�eno pogre�nim
3. kao i svaki proces u koji se uklju�e pravne slu�be, o�ekuje se da se ovaj problem ne�e rije�iti nekoliko mjeseci - ne o�ekujte razrje�enje situacije odmah.

U sljede�ih nekoliko redaka ukratko �u i pojednostavljeno objasniti razvoj situacije.

Kako je sve po�elo?

1. Prvog svibnja 2018. indie autorica (autorica koja objavljuje svoje knjige neovisno od izdava�a) Faleena Hopkins trademarkom je za�titila rije� 'cocky' koja se pojavljuje u naslovu njezinog serijala i font u kojem je rije� ispisana na naslovnici.

2. Autorima �iji nazivi knjiga sadr�e spomenutu rije�i ubrzo su po�eli stizati mailovi u kojima je Hopkins tra�ila da promijene nazive svojih knjiga jer ne smiju koristiti rije� koju je ona za�titila. U mailovima je Hopkins upozoravala da �e, u slu�aju da autor ne promijeni ime, ona tu�iti i dobiti presudu i sav novac koji su autori zaradili od prodaje svojih knjiga. Prvi takakv mail dobila je autorica Jamila Jasper. Nakon toga vijest je buknula i pro�irila se indie zajednicom, i na kraju svijetom.

3. S obzirom da je Hopkins za�titila rije� (zakon je zbog toga na njezinoj strani) i na "problemati�ne" se autore �alila Amazonu, on je morao reagirati - ubzo su se po�eli skidati svi naslovi koji su sad�avali rije� 'cocky'. Osim romana, brisane su i recenzije �itatelja koje su sadr�avale taj pridjev. Naime, Hopkins je jedina koja ima pravo koristiti rije� 'cocky' ako se ona odnosi na ljubavne romane i bilo �to povezano s njima. Svima drugima je, u tom kontekstu, zabranjeno koristiti tu rije�.

4. Blogeri i autori masovno su se po�eli �aliti. Osim njih, ovim Faleeninim potezom odjednom su se na�li prozvani i izdava�i koji su izdali naslove sa spornim pridjevom i imenom. Pokrenuta je peticija za ukidanje trademarka koju mo�ete potpisati ovdje. Autori i pravnici uklju�ili su se u slu�aj s ciljem da doka�u Faleeni da nema pravo uzurpirati rije� koja pripada svima. Ogromna zajednica svih zakinutih (zamislite koliko ko�ta promjena naslova, dizajn novih naslovnica, swaga, reklama, �tampa itd.) po�alila se udruzi Romance Writers of America (RWA) koja je napokon reagirala potra�iv�i pravnu pomo�.

5. RWA obratila se Amazonu s molbom da se knjige i recenzije prestanu skidati jer postoje nepravilnosti u na�inu na koji je Hopkins stekla intelektualno vlasni�tvo nad pridjevom 'cocky'. Amazon je nakon toga zaustavio bilo kakve radnje vezane uz ovu problematiku.

6. Trenutno jedna i druga strana poku�avaju dokazati za�to su u pravu - traje utakmica: Faleena vs. ostatak svijeta

Za�to se za�tita rije�i 'cocky' smatra nepravilno ste�enom? Za�to se tra�i njezino ukidanje?

Od prvog trenutka kada se rije� o zabrani kori�tenja pridjeva pro�irila, bilo je jasno da tu ne�to smrdi s pravne strane. Faleena nije za�titila ime svojeg serijala, ve� samo jednu rije�i u njegovu imenu, pridjev 'cocky' (dana�nji naziv Faleenina serijala, u originalu je izgledao druga�ije - dakle, ime koje je za�titila uop�e nije originalno ime njezinog serijala). 

Odvjetnik kojeg je anga�irala RWA, Marc Whipple, na svojoj stranici detaljno obja�njava na�in na koja osoba mo�e trademarkom za�tititi neki termin ili naziv. Primjerice (jer ima tu mnogo pravnih caka), kako bi rije� mogla postati za�ti�ena kao ne�ije intelektualno vlasni�tvo, iza nje mora stajati jedinstven pojam koji korisniku omogu�uje jedinstveno oskustvo. 
Dakle, ako uzmemo primjer za�ti�enog naziva Budweiser - ono nam garantira da govorimo o pivu, ali o to�no odre�enoj vrsti piva, to�no odre�enog okusa, koje pru�a to�no odre�eno iskustvo. Budwieser u svijetu piva nema nikakvo zna�enje osim onoga �to predstavlja. Prema tome, rije� 'cocky' trebala bi ozna�avati pojam koji je toliko jedinstven da ne postoji nigdje drugdje u svijetu, �to u Faleeninu slu�aju ne prolazi. 'Cocky' i u njezinom romanu, i u svim drugima zna�i potpuno isto. Da je autorica za�titila ime svojeg serijala, garantirala bi nam da s time dobivamo ne�to jedinstveno - niz knjiga koje su njezine i samo njezine. Ali za�titom jedne rije�i, koja ima odre�eno zna�enje i van stranica njezinih romana, ona ne nudi ni�ta jedinstveno, ni�ta �to bi ozna�avalo posebno iskustvo za �itatelja. 
Jo� jedan sli�an primjer na koji sam nai�la je za�tita naziva Star Wars. Taj naziv mo�e se za�tititi upravo u ovome obliku, u kojem se odnosti na to�no odre�eni pojam. Pojmovi star i wars sami po sebi nisu mogli biti za�ti�eni, jer oba imaju svoje zna�enje van fran�ize Georgea Lucasa. Za�to bi i�ta druga�ije bilo s pojmom 'cocky'?

Odonda se u pri�u uklju�ilo mno�tvo autora koji su pravnici po struci, a koji su se pro bono primili ovog slu�aja s ciljem da se doka�e Faleenina pogre�ka.

Nadalje, autorica je za�titila i font slova kojim je rije� 'cocky' ispisana na njezinim romanima. Ubrzo nakon �to se to saznalo, javili su se autori fonta od kojih ga je ona kupila, a koji su potvrdili da Faleeni nisu dali dozvolu da za�titi njihov font s obzirom na to da bi ga u tom slu�aju trebali prestati prodavati. Osim �to su zanijekali da su joj dali dozvolu za za�titu, prozvali su je zbog njezinog bezobrazluka.

S moralne strane, zapitajmo se malo o ovome. Zapitajmo se o tome koliko je prisvajanje rije�i problem zajednice �anra autora i �itatelja ljubavnih romana, a koliko svih nas koji volimo �itanje.
Jedna osoba odlu�ila je tisu�ama uzeti pravo da koriste odre�enu rije� kako bi njome opisali isti pojam koji ona njome opsuje.
Me�u autorima je zavladala panika. Ne samo da �e, ako se valjanost ovog trademarka ne uspije poni�titi, mnogi od njih morati ulo�iti hrpu novca da naprave sve zakonom zatra�ene promjene na svojim romanima, ve� �e i oni, koji nisu zahva�eni ovim incidentom, osjetiti potrebu da za�tite sebe i svoje knjige. Uskoro �e ova, ili neka druga autorica, zatra�iti trademark nad pridjevom 'sexy'. Netko drugi �e pridjev 'hot' proglasiti svojim intelektualnim vlasni�tvom. Netko tre�i izborit �e se za 'handsome'. A mi, ako pi�emo tekst o ne�emu �to je povezano s ljubavnim romanima, ne�emo smjeti napisati 'It's hot outside' ('Vani je vru�e') bez da nam sleti sudska tu�ba zbog toga �to smo koristili pridjev koji nam ne pripada. Uskoro �emo ljubavne romane nazivati Ljubavni roman 1 i Ljubavni roman 2. Tako dugo dok netko i te dvije rije�i ne za�titi...

Jo� uvijek ste uvjereni da se ovaj problem ne�e pro�iriti i na naki drugi �anr? Ili neki drugi jezik? Ne zaboravite da neki autori pi�u i ljubi�e i krimi�e ili ne�to tre�e. O�ekujte trenutak kada vi�e ne�ete smjeti koristiti pridjev 'guilty' ili 'innocent' jer ih je netko uzurpirao...

I na kraju, spomenut �u i to da se autorica u svemu ovome prema svojim �itateljima i kolegama odnosi s bezobrazlukom kojemu nema granica. 
Tvrdi da je rije� za�titila jer su joj se javljali �itatelji koji su prilikom kupnje slu�ajno kupili tu�e knjige umjesto njezinih zbog sli�nosti u naslovu. Evo za�to to ne dr�i vodu. Ponajprije, svaku knjigu koju kupite na Amazonu, mo�ete i vratiti. I drugo, koji to �itatelj (ako stvarno zna �itati), kupuje knjigu bez da pro�ita ime autora? 
Nadalje, mailovi koje je ljudima slala sadr�e prijetnje zbog kojih i sama mo�e biti sudski gonjena.
Tre�e, Faleena je ljude optu�ivala da su krali imena njezinih likova. Jer nikada se u povjesti knji�evnosti nije dogodilo da se u dvije razli�ite knjige pojavi lik istog imena...
I na kraju, ako se prou�e datumi objavljivanja njezinih romana i drugih romana koji u imenu sadr�e rije� 'cocky' (a koje Faleena poku�ava eliminirati kao konkurenciju), nije te�ko zamijetiti da su neki bili objavljeni prije njezinih - dakle, ona nije prva koja je svoje romane nazvala ovim nazivom. Tko je onda �to i od koga krao?


Zaista mi je �ao da se ovaj problem omalova�ava, izbjegava ili mu se uop�e ne pridaje pa�nja. Na internetu nisam prona�la nijedan �lanak na hrvatskome u kojemu se uop�e spominje Faleena i nastala kontroverzija. Mo�da je to zato �to je buknuo me�u autorima ljubi�a, a njih nitko ne uzima uzbiljno.
Nasre�u, ve�ina ljudi, onih koji su se zanimali za ovu temu, a mnogi od njih ne �itaju ovu vrstu literature, shva�aju da je problem ozbiljan i ne�e ga zauzdani nikakve �anrovske granice. Ako �elite pripomo�i cilju - ukidanju trademarka - mo�ete to u�initi potpisivanjem ove peticije.
Ako �elite saznati vi�e, preporu�ujem da u Facebook tra�ilicu upi�ete #cockygate. Na taj �ete na�in prona�i objave puno o�te�enih, izvrije�anih i omalova�avanih autora i blogera te svjedo�iti pravom stanju situacije.
